Dear Friends,
My name is Jim Harries. I was called to serve God overseas, in 1987. By HIS grace, I’ve been doing so, in East Africa, from 1988 to date. I recently discovered SIAMAs helpful services for booking flights.
My time as a missionary has been quite revolutionary! That is to say, I set-out thinking that my agricultural training (I have a degree in agriculture) would be the most useful to African people. I turned from that to Bible teaching 30 years ago. Nowadays the privilege I perhaps value the most, is that of regularly being able to expound the Bible to indigenous people here in East Africa, using their own languages. Many churches I visit to do that are those founded by African people themselves.
I teach the Bible, while reflecting on the lives of the African people I am with. I share much in what they do and in their lives. I do not cease to be amazed at how differently they live to how I was brought up, but how God’s Grace is equal to them.
To find out more about how Africa can change someone, have a look at this intriguing novel, that I wrote to explain something of my own life story in a very readable way.
(African Heartbeat: and a vulnerable fool.)
