Originally from Ireland, I have been based in Kampala, Uganda, since 2002, where I live with my husband, Carlos, who is from Uganda, with our two sons, aged 12 and 9. I was grateful that Siama was able to assist us when we travelled in July to visit my Irish family collectively for the first time since 2015, and it was truly wonderful to visit and also meet with supporting churches and friends. I am involved with two mission agencies in Uganda, both with a focus on vulnerable children. I lead Abaana Ministries Uganda which helps children from low-income communities to get better access to education through building primary schools and a sponsorship programme, as well as reintegrating street-connected children back into families (www.abaana.org/uganda). My second role relates to communication, whereby I provide writing, editing and proofreading services to Viva Africa. Viva builds networks of organisations working with children at risk to have collective influence and to assist in better collaboration, with an emphasis on building capacity in various areas, particularly safeguarding and currently works in 28 countries worldwide. Should any small faith-based agency desire to learn more about possible opportunities to join a network, they should feel free to explore https://www.viva.org/. I am blessed to have been a missionary for over 20 years, and it is a joy to serve the Lord by meeting practical needs and showing God’s love to vulnerable children alongside brothers and sisters here in Uganda.
